tian gjevik (eod,cn), passionate and curious about electronic music, found in a trondheim thrift store a tape of the norwegian legendary project : the educational music -sports/tools-. he contacted one of the two composers called dildrian schrodinger. he has managed to negociate with him a deal for a vinyl license with weme records. we can find in this project ordered by the norwegian state all an experimentation work with electronic machines from the 1980 s. it is sometimes accompanied by a clumsy singing quite modern at that time.

steve frisco, of serie limitee fame, brings us the latest bundle of hot tracks to hit wax classic in 2014. as the title suggests, steve takes us on a journey through low fidelity sounds and production techniques. think dark, moody, yet crunchy basement house tracks with inspiration taken from all over the u.s and the rest of the house world. it’s a generous offering as well. six whole dusty tunes for those diggers who are looking for something with a bit more range than another record of generic piano laden, house-by-numbers pieces that still seem to be flooding the record store shelves in 2014. the moods do vary from track to track, but they remain very reflective and almost melancholic at points. the title track, ‘adventure in lo-fi’, is the deepest of the lot with filtered chords, echoing claps and a sporadic kick pattern that often clears way for the track’s bass hits. now, compare that to ‘da brooklyn beat’. whilst the former had a distinct sunrise/sunset kind of feel to it, the latter is definitely more of a club affair. skippy snare hits and a strong organ lead the track on, and at the risk of utilizing very overused buzzwords such as ‘raw’ and ‘ruff’, this track, and the rest of the a-side for that matter, certainly captures that essence. stalwart wax classic fans will no doubt be picking this one up to add to their collection. however, i strongly recommend this ep as a jumping in point to the label for any newcomers out there

on this new 12 inch, we present 3 big names of the digging scene: tokyo matt from the otaku soundsystem originally based in hong-honk, and mori ra & asn from tokyo oyama edit, well know for their releases on curt jackson rotating soulss label. the 4 edits they are presenting are just out of this world. all very atmospherics, they are the ideal combination of space disco, balearic rock, jazz, pop and fusion. another ep to take very seriously.

new york endless is the first appearance on vinyl of new jersey born new yorker dan selzer. you may not have heard of him, but many of your favourite producers, bands and djs massively respect his record collection and ear. many of the sounds he has spent years exploring and djing can be heard via the three tracks that make up the strategies ep. elements of techno and house, idm, italo-disco and new wave, cosmic and kosmiche, krautrock and a certain debt to the new york school of minimalist composers all appear. the music is pure and (mostly) analog while still centred around accessible melodies and clean synthesized tones. golf channel every time!

we are proud to unveil the seventh release on telefonplan, osirus ep from anders hellberg, a berlin based producer and dj from south sweden. with osirus ep, it is immediately clear that anders is a fan and follower of the old school techno with elements of detroit techno and acid. four righteous slabs of hardware goodness is on the menu this time, all served tight and driving. from the opening track *beyond the stratosphere* with its pulsating rhythm and hypnotizing chords to *gondor*, a heavier, darker and dubbier acid anders showcases his uniquely modern flavour of techno. on the flip, *osirus* is a floor burning chord jam and *respond* finishes things perfect with hypnotic melody.

ocoeurs latest album a parallel life finds franck zaragoza showcasing his adeptness at fusing thoughtfully crafted melodies with twitchingly syncopated techno. in a recent interview berlin music portal kultmucke introduced zaragoza something of an idm prodigy and while thats a fair summation due to his preference for malleable beatwork and his use of heavily processed field recordings there is more there than simple glitchery. zaragozas melodies, while often shrouded in hazes of static, affect the cinematic minimalism of modern composition. these such comparisons put him stylistically hovering somewhere between the likes of arovane and max richter which is no meager feat. a parallel life aches, breathes, pulsates and is forever churning. it has a subliminal soul that is all too often a casualty of electronic music of this style. the vinyl lp includes a download code.

a modern boogie 7 inch on unirhythm!? yep, you heard right! marcellus pittman graces the a-side of the disc on *1044 coplin* - a nice slice of mid west funk sure to appeal to all the boogie heads worldwide. on the flip we have the unirhythm debut from detroits own john cannon. john c is a veteran producer and mc, most recently featured on the j dilla album *rebirth of detroit*. no suprise there - we definitely hear some dilla on *j.c.s groove*. essential!

this edit of malis amadou & mariam ce nest pas bon (originally created in 2008 for my dj sets) was supposed to be included on the recently released third autonomous africa 12inch. unfortunately i didnt get permission to use it in time for that release but permission has now been given, so rather than wait for aa 004 in 2015 it is going to come out as a limited edition hand stamped 10inch as soon as possible. all proceeds will once again go to the mtandika mission in tanzania -www.actioninafrica.org/about-mtandika.php a big thanks to ben ufo and midland for championing this edit. the interest they generated directly led to the motivation for this release.

london/venezuela production duo juan laya & jorge montiel aka los charlys orchestra take influences from salsoul, fania, donna summer, cerrone, herbie hancock and even jamiroquay and blend them with their very unique style of production in order to deliver their latest anthem of neo latin disco. after a few months of experimentation across different sounds los charlys are back into their main arena with an outstanding new single entitle everlasting love. los charlys orchestra were first known by their initial disco/funk period and more recently by their infectious latin/funk sound, which has been buzzing all around the place for the past couple of years. this new single expresses a cross road in between the two periods of lco bringing up a new perspective for the future of this outfit.

rothmans is back with there 7th release and this time they pay homage to german playmaker paul breitner . the ep comes in the form of rising manchester producer ste spandex , fresh off the back of his remix of coyote our on rothmans 6 , and has been recorded 100% live on analogue eqiupment , not a computer in sight !!!! . the ep finds rothmans taking a slightly different and more up tempo vibe to it but still retains the psychadelic nu disco feel of many of there earlier releases. spandex has had a little help from his friends in the form of kickin pigeon and metrodome , both fresh out of the manchester underground. this is rothmans first all manchester release and sees them really cemeting the label in there surroundings.

if you re going to beat em down, you need the right tools. on the label s second release, grimy trax has given you a couple hammers. the a-side, dejay cease s the fixer is straight chicago. we re talking banging 909 funk that might be found buried on a particularly unhinged ron hardy mix. a simple bass line and two notes of acid are all it takes to make the floor go wild. this is functional heat with enough atmosphere to engage the mind, body and soul. on the b-side, rising chicago son boogienite proves he s earned the hype. boy, ok is an instant classic thanks to some recognizable disco strings and a funky escalator of a bassline. the producer uses a trippy, rubberband synth which eventually turns into rhythmic, teasing vocal. the mixdown is ridiculous, especially as the lengthy track passes the halfway mark. boogie brings the bassline in and out in between beautiful ambient rhodes and a call and response male and female vocal. those strings hit again and you feel no pain.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

david k is the parisian-turned-berliner producer who has been a prominent artist within the underground house scene since the late 90s, having first joined forces with dan ghenacia of apollonia when releasing his bestseller * boul de nerf* on freak n chic. a fruitful career in production led to music on labels like cocoon, visionquest, supplement facts and bpitch control, while his new album * out of range * is just about to drop. ten years in the making and signed to tiefschwarzs souvenir, david proves his music is still as relevant today as ever. as one of the main artists on freak n chic, david k seemed a natural fit for apollonia to approach...* david is an old friend and talented produced who we have known from the beginning back in paris. of course we wanted to see what he could do for the new label, as you know by now we apollonia are always referring back to our roots. a 2-track package, * middle-aged romance* is characterised by its bell melody and hard-hitting bassline, an electric story moving between ethereal wonder and an intense workout. * drop the beat* perfectly demonstrates the classic chicago house style david k and apollonia first enjoyed together all those years ago, but adding a very modern, textured touch. coming 2014, apollonia invite premiesku to the label – the combination of livio & roby and their pal george g – and also the newest addition to the lola ed roster.

airplay from steve barker (the wire) on bbc radio and support from tomas rubeck (eshu) among others. kicking off the new fifth interval label, san francisco based dub techno producer federsen heads up the premier release. the title track is a hazy dub techno trip filled with washes of tape delayed chords and crisp snares while the b1 track - 50hz is a far more broken affair, 140 bpm gear comparable to the likes of deadbeat and strategy. for the final track, isodyne (one half of forward strategy group) shakes up 50 hz, slowing it down to an incredibly weighty 115 bpm, finalising an excellent release with something for discerning djs of all tastes.
